John Bardsley

The Rt Rev John Wareing Bardsley, DD, MA was born on 29 March 1835 and educated at Manchester Grammar School[1] and Trinity College, Dublin. He began his career as a Curate at St Anne's, Sale[2] after which he held incumbencies at St John's, Bootle[3] and then St Saviour's, Liverpool.[4] From 1880 to 1886 he was Archdeacon of Warrington and then of Liverpool before ascending to the Episcopate as Bishop of Sodor and Man in 1887. In 1891 he was translated to Carlisle,[5] a post he held until his death on 14 March 1914.[6]
